Our History
Integrated Massage Therapy College was founded in February 2007 in Oklahoma City, OK. IMTC was built over the course of many years surveying the massage profession. The massage professionals and the future massage professionals are the people behind this wonderful new bright out look on massage therapy. They have come together and have united all thoughts and education on the field of massage. They understand that not everybody has the same body and each technique taught through out the field fits different body types.
Tobi Brock-Utterback, was first introduced to massage therapy when working with Chiropractors in their offices in San Angelo, Texas in 1992. The doctors trained and tutored Tobi in the science and techniques of medical massage. As she developed her skills under the watchful eyes of her mentors she saw, first hand, the powerful effects that massage can have on the human body, mind and spirit.
It was at the doctors’ suggestion, encouragement and with their full support that she sought further training and certification at the Austin School of Massage. Tobi accepted this challenge with passion and dedication and managed to graduate with honors in 1996.
She continued her work with the Chiropractors and began to build her massage practice. During this time she attended numerous conferences on business and marketing.
Ultimately she moved to Oklahoma City in 1999, and opened a massage clinic which she ran successfully for 2 years. Once again, she worked in conjunction with Chiropractors in the area. In 2002 a new school of massage opened in Oklahoma City, and Tobi was the first instructor to be hired. Through the years, she has continued to learn, practice and use her gifts to help others. She saw her work at the school as an opportunity to share that knowledge and experience with her students in order to promote professionalism and excellence in the field of massage.
During her four years in instructing at this prominent college, she observed students who had learned invaluable skills and techniques flounder when they got out in the “real world”. They had been given classroom lecture but no realistic preparation for what lay beyond the learning institutions doors.
In 1982 Gephart Parzer, a native of Austria where he had been trained in massage therapy, moved to the United States. In 1986 he established Integrated Therapies Massage Clinic. He operated this respected and successful clinic for sixteen years. In 2002, Parzer decided to move back to Austria to be near his family.
Before Parzer could depart for Austria he was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident. He spent two weeks in intensive care and for a time was not expected to live. He had sustained multiple injuries including bone shattering injuries to his left arm and wrist. As he began to recover the doctors told him that he would never be able to perform massage again. His arm was held together with steel rods and wires. There followed a series of operations, bone grafts and recovery time from each. During this period he would visit with Tobi in the clinic she now managed and they would talk and she would work on his arm, using the techniques they were both so familiar with to help his body recover and assist its’ own healing power.
Two very important things resulted from these sessions. Gephart recovered the use of his arm and hand and is now able to actively pursue his career in massage once again. The other was that Gephart and Tobi discovered that they both had a desire to change massage education in the nation. The desire of creating a massage school that would promote the highest quality in education for massage therapist, upholding the ethical and moral standards.
Integrated Massage Therapy College is that massage school. With courses for every type of therapist, from beginners just getting stared to established therapist that need continuing educational classes, IMTC will provide it for them. All courses are geared to give the student as much information as they need, IMTC is not only going to teach but demonstrate how to market and have a successful massage practice.
Jami Parker, Director of IMTC, is a graduate of Northeastern State University with a Bachelor in Science in Secondary Education and a graduate from Heritage College with an Associate Degree in Massage Therapy. She was introduced to massage therapy through a friend; however at the time she was just finishing her Bachelor’s and wanted to complete that.
It wasn’t until 2004 when she was tired of not finding a teaching job that she quit her present job (Quality Control Supervisor at a chicken plant) and decided to go back to school. She moved three hours away from family and friends to attend massage school here in Oklahoma City. At that time is when she met Tobi, who was her instructor at school.
After graduation she continued working with Tobi at Integrated Therapies. She met Gephart and other professionals and furthered her knowledge in massage therapy. It was when Tobi decided to start a school that she finally found that teaching job that she had wanted all these years. Now her two loves were united in one place, massage and education.
